Ken's
1976 Trans Am stock suspension street car...
Ken Keefer loves to race.
In the late 60’s and early 70’s Ken raced
Pontiacs. In
1973 he got his start building engines for his buddies.
It wasn’t too long afterwards that he started
his own machine shop so he could ensure the quality he
demanded. He
would study Ford, Chevy and Chrysler engines and heads
and then design and make those performance modifications
for Pontiacs.
In
1980, Ken opened Ken’s Speed and Machine Shop in Brooksville, Florida.
He has been involved with Circle track late
model, sportsman, hobby stock engines, mud racing,
4-wheel drive applications, building Cadillac engines
for airboats, and other applications. Ken
has shipped engines as far away as Guam.
One of Ken’s customers, Mark Ceria of Holland,
has a 1969 Pontiac GTO that has won the title of “The
Netherlands Mightiest American Muscle Machine.”
While Ken specializes in
American Muscle Iron, Pontiacs are still Ken’s
passion. In
1993 when Edelbrock came out with a new aluminum head,
he got back into racing Pontiacs.
His best time for his 1976 street legal Pontiac
Trans Am is 8.91 with a speed of 160 mph on M/T drag
radials!
Ken continues to improve his
product offerings and engine building skills.
He is currently doing engine and track testing on
the CV-1 head designed by Jim at Roland
Racing. Kens says the CV-1 canted valve
head design will be available for all Pontiac
applications. BRC
is proud to be associated with Ken and will be providing
pistons to match this new head design.
Ken also offers a 'Blow
thru ATI Centrifugal
Supercharger Kit.
Supercharging is a great way to add 35 to 40%
more horsepower to your engine.
Ken
chose BRC for a set of pistons he built for a nitrous
car pushing 1250 hp.
Now he offers his Pontiac 505 crate engine
utilizing BRC pistons. When asked about why Ken specs BRC he will tell you BRC can
make custom pistons quickly with good service at good
prices!
When you visit Ken’s
Speed and Machine Shop, the
site has some neat stories about Nitrous tips and pages
of Pontiac information. What we really liked is a page he's built to calculate
your horsepower: 1) calculate your HP based upon
trap speed, 2) calculate HP from ET, 3) calculate tire
diameter, 4) calculate MPH for RPM range, 5)
calculate rear end ratio, 6) RPM calculator, 7) CFM
needed, 8) Liter/CID conversions, and 9) displacement
calculations.
Ken has 35 years experience in
building high performance engines. If you want to
go fast along with great reliability, dial 352-796-8800 and have a talk with Ken!
